Responsibilities of a Black Cab Driver
A London taxi driverโs duties include:
- Getting customers to where they want to go as quickly and safely as possible.
- Maintaining thorough and current knowledge of London, or, if a suburban driver, the area of London in which they work.
- Maintaining the reputation of Londonโs black cab drivers as the worldโs most knowledgeable and competent transport service.
Skills a Black Cab Driver Must Have
Having a high-level qualification and a license is not enough. You still need to have some primary skills in your character to get the most out of this career. Here are some key skills a black cab driver must have:
Good Standard Of Communication
Any profession requires effective communication, but itโs much more crucial when you have little time with the client and need to leave a greater impact on him. You must be aware of the clientโs requirements and the location of their final destination. Anxiety in this situation simply adds to your clientโs perplexity and dissatisfaction.
Strong Cognitive Memory:
While driving a taxi for long distances in London, every cab driver encounters issues like having a passenger in a rush, encountering road construction sites, or heavy traffic on busy routes. A driver can address all these problems by having a thorough grasp of memory and remembering quick and short turns to reach destinations.
Customer Dealing Ability:
Customer service abilities are a need if you want to make returning customers and word-of-mouth referrals. Delivering the best customer service creates positive passenger experiences, whether it is something as simple as helping to load and unload luggage or providing directions.
Always Ready To Work For Long:
To become a leading cab driver, you must work hard. You must be willing to work long hours in an unfriendly environment and have all your abilities. Businesses could be closed, but the city is never asleep. Therefore, a cab driver should be there to serve passengers all day and night.
Other Essential Things in the Black Cab Driving Career
A Cab
To work as a black cab driver, you will also require your own cab. Depending on the city you work in, you might be able to hire a cab. Itโs important to remember that if you want to drive a black taxi in London, youโll need to get a car that complies with the new emissions laws that went into effect across the region. You may need a hybrid or electric vehicle to drive at least 30 miles without emitting greater pollution.
Insurance
You must have the appropriate insurance if you want to drive black cabs. Accidents that occur while youโre working will be covered by black cab taxi insurance. You can select third-party, fire and theft, or completely comprehensive insurance depending on the level of security you want. A black taxi insurance policy also allows you to purchase additional forms of coverage, such as breakdown assistance and personal injury protection. If you choose to drive a private hire car, youโll need to consider private hire insurance.
